(hold on, i have to put my muffin with Hood strawberry jam down to type this) What a great post! I love this story and strawberry memories. I'm so glad you can live vicariously through me of your childhood love of Oregon strawberries. We toast you, former Oregonian, with our strawberries!

P.S. Thank you for the nice comment on my blog.

@ Tiffany - So true. Hope you enjoy the basil syrup! I'm been on a big herbal cocktail kick lately and can't get enough of it. Sadly, my mint and oregano survived the winter in my herb pot, but no sign of basil. I need to get a plant soon, I hate having to buy it when it's so easy to grow.

The best meals are those that have fond memories attached to them. I love the story about the strawberry festival. It sounds like it was a wonderful community event. And what a great dessert to honor your memories! This looks delicious. Thanks for the link to the basil syrup. My basil plant looks like it is exploding right now, so I will have to make some of that.
